The Crow's Nest

Following the completion of SqueakFreak, a post-mortem document was created to examine failure points of the initial project. Building off of SqueakFreak's framework, The Crow's Nest was designed to address the mechanical and control issues that the original prototype was plagued by.

By incorporating a dual toroidal propeller to allow for torque vectoring and the addition of a swivel system allowing the camera to reorient itself, the new robot was able to more closely achieve its goals.

Moreover, a custom-built ESP32-S3 controller was constructed to allow for manual control of the robot, which, when combined with a VR headset, granted the ability of FPV control.

The new design made use of a thrust bearing to minimize friction between plates and made use of stacking platforms to keep the center of gravity as close to the center as possible.
